What is menopause?

Menopause is defined as twelve consecutive months without a menstrual period and no other known cause. At this time ovarian function diminishes and estrogen levels drop. The average age of menopause in the US is 51 years old. Upwards of 70% of menopausal women experience hot flashes and night sweats due to menopause.  Many women remain untreated and uncomfortable. Why suffer?
