The list below includes some of the more common potential interactions. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list or take the place of advice from your healthcare provider. As with any dietary supplement, discuss with your pharmacist and/or healthcare team to determine whether TheraNatal Complete can be taken with your medications.
Antibiotics: Taking calcium, magnesium, iron, and/or zinc (in TheraNatal Complete) with antibiotics can decrease their absorption and effectiveness. Depending on which antibiotic is prescribed, you may need to separate TheraNatal Complete from the antibiotic, as indicated below.
Cephalexin (Keflex): Take at least 3 hours before TheraNatal Complete.Tetracycline antibiotics (doxycycline, minocycline, demeclocycline): Separate by 4 hours.Quinolone antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin (Cipro), gemifloxacin (Factive), levofloxacin (Levaquin), Moxifloxacin (Avelox)): Separate by 6 hours.
Levodopa, Carbidopa: Taking iron (in TheraNatal Complete) might decrease the absorption of these medications. Take at separate times of the day.
Oral Bisphosphonates (i.e., alendronate (Fosamax), etidronate (Didronel), risedronate (Actonel), ibandronate (Boniva), tiludronate (Skelid)): Magnesium, calcium, and iron (in TheraNatal Complete) can decrease the absorption of these medications. Separate from TheraNatal Complete by 2 hours.
Penicillamine (Cuprimine, Depen): Iron (in TheraNatal Complete) may decrease the absorption of this medication. Separate from TheraNatal Complete by 2 hours.
Thyroid hormone (levothyroxine, Synthroid): Minerals in TheraNatal Complete can reduce the absorption of thyroid hormone medications. Separate the speckled tablet and thyroid hormone by at least 4 hours.
Medications for overactive thyroid (methimazole, propylthiouracil): Iodine (in TheraNatal Complete) might change the effects of these medications. Consult with your healthcare provider if you’re taking medication for an overactive thyroid with TheraNatal Complete.
