While both water-based lubricant and oil-based lubricant should have their own spot in the drawer of your nightstand, water-based lube does offer some advantages over its oil-based counterpart.
- Water soluble: Water-based lube will always wash away easily, which makes for easy clean up after an exhausting intimate session. No soap or scrub is necessary, you can easily wipe off water-based lube with just a wet wipe or damp cloth.
- Non-staining: Because who likes oil stains on their sheets? When using water-based lube during sex, it is virtually impossible to ruin your sheets. Any residue should come out easily in the wash.
- Lower risk of bacteria introduction: When it comes to introducing fungi or bacteria, particularly to the vagina, water-based lubricants are less likely to harbor or promote the growth of either one than oil-based lubricants. When you opt for high-quality oil-based lubricants, check for expiration dates, store properly, and avoid “double dipping.” Double dipping is when a finger or penis that has entered the anus and then the vagina without cleansing. Regardless of brand, the likelihood of bacteria growth can be reduced by using a water-based lubricant and avoiding the above practices. To take extra precautions against bacteria introduction, use our Cleanse Intimate Skin Foaming Wash for a worry-free clean anytime, including after sex.
- Lighter feel: Some people may prefer the lighter and more natural viscosity of water-based lube over its oil-based counterparts. Oil-based lubricants can be described as heavy and greasy but may provide more of a “glide” than water-based lube.
